About the Role:
We are currently seeking a compassionate, organised, and proactive Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join the leadership team of a highly respected residential nursing home located in Oughterard, Co. Galway.
This is a pivotal senior position working alongside the Director of Nursing and the broader management team to maintain and enhance the highest standards of person-centred care. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and driven nurse, ready to take the next step in their leadership career.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership & Oversight
- Support the Director of Nursing in overseeing day-to-day clinical operations.
- Ensure consistent delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care.
- Monitor compliance with HIQA standards and implement best practice guidelines.
- Assist in the development and review of clinical policies and care protocols.
Staff Management & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and support nursing and healthcare staff.
- Contribute to workforce planning, scheduling, and ensuring appropriate skill mix.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
- Help identify training needs and support professional development initiatives.
Governance & Quality Assurance
- Participate in quality improvement activities and clinical audits.
- Assist with risk management, incident reporting, and safeguarding procedures.
- Contribute to inspection readiness and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Resident-Centred Care
- Promote dignity, autonomy, and holistic care for all residents.
- Support the creation and ongoing review of person-centred care plans.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and external partners.
Operational & Strategic Support
- Deputise for the Director of Nursing when required.
- Contribute to strategic planning and service enhancement initiatives.
- Ensure the smooth running of daily operations in collaboration with the senior team.
Essential Requirements:
- Active registration with the NMBI as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) or equivalent (RNID/RPN).
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a senior nursing position within the older person care sector.
- Strong knowledge of HIQA regulations and the Health Act 2007.
- Proven leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management, Gerontology, or a related field.
- Experience as Person in Charge or in a supervisory role in a designated centre.
- Interest in quality improvement, innovation, or service development.
