Healthcare Assistant - Limerick
Job Description
We are currently seeking a qualified Healthcare Assistant to join our team. This organization is a voluntary foundation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities since 1968. We offer a range of services, including day services, residential, respite care, and home support across South West Limerick. We have multiple locations, including , Ballylanders, Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff, Croom, Dromcollogher, Granagh, Kilmallock, and Liskennett.
Position Details:
- Type: Full-time, Permanent
- Hours: Up to 39 hours per week
- Shift: Days/Evenings/Nights/Weekends (rostered on a shift basis)
- Salary: Section 39 Salary Scale
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the day-to-day needs of service users, including physical care (dressing, personal hygiene, toileting, etc.).
- Facilitate service users in using their leisure time tailored to their needs, emphasizing community integration.
- Instruct, supervise, and support service users in daily living, work, and leisure programs.
- Recognize and report physical, social, and emotional problems and assist in implementing relevant programs to address these issues.
- Work positively and constructively with service users who may present challenging behavior and participate in individualized programs designed for them.
- Drive service users to and from day and residential services and leisure/social outings as required.
- Contribute to the training of new staff and volunteers.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and orderliness in the working/living environment.
- Provide support for service users outside the organization, such as during holidays, family outings, or hospital stays.
- Assist service users in the therapy pool, as needed, following advice from the Line Manager and lifeguard/instructor.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Completed QQI Level 5 (Major Award) in Healthcare Support or equivalent.
- Experience working with children/adults with intellectual disabilities, especially those who may present challenging behavior.
- High degree of flexibility and ability to work as part of a team.
- Full Irish Driving Licence and indemnification of the organization on car insurance policy (desirable).
Health & Safety:
- Proper use of all aids and appliances, such as hoists.
- Report and document all accidents/incidents.
- Comply with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
- Report faulty equipment and ensure compliance with emergency actions and plans.
- Implement and maintain fire and safety precautions.
General:
- Promote a positive and dignified awareness of intellectual disability in the community.
- Participate in relevant training courses to develop necessary skills.
- Stay informed about new developments in the field of intellectual disabilities and relevant guidelines and policies.
- Act as a Key Worker for service users as required.
- Attend courses, seminars, and meetings as requested.
- Treat parents and visitors with tact and consideration.
Confidentiality:
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the medical or personal affairs of clients, staff, or business information. Ensure records are securely managed to prevent unauthorized access.
